On August 28, 2017, CAAD- Chennai Academy of Architecture and Design hosted their 26th Lecture titled “Visual Communication: Powering a design narrative” by Ar. Tahaer Zoyab, at their campus in Thumbakkam.
CAAD Silver Jubilee on “Architecture and Society”
On July 7, 2017, CAAD- Chennai Academy of Architecture and Design a standalone college of architecture located in Thumbakkam, Chennai hosted the Silver Jubilee Lecture titled “Architecture and Society” by Architect. Pramod Balakrishnan, at their campus in Thumbakkam. The architect addressed the students about the connections between humans, built environment and nature.
Performance Spaces through the Ages
Ar. Lavanyaa addressed the students of CAAD about the evolution of traditional performing art centers and theatres, as dictated by the ancient texts of India. She elaborated on the various classifications of theatre spaces, the ancient directives governing their design and the versatility and requirements of performing arts as a building function.
Lecture on “Synthesising the ‘Unknown’ in the ‘Known”
The eleventh of the CAAD lecture series had renowned conservation architect Ms. Kalpana from Chennai, who deliberated her experiences and memories on the topic “Tracing the history of Madras through built heritage”. This lecture materialised in a time when we all Chennaites geared up to celebrate the existence of its city as ‘Madras Week’ celebrations from August 16-23.
Lecture on “Process in Design” by Hariesh K.Sankaran
The eleventh of the CAAD lecture series had renowned conservation architect Ms. Kalpana from Chennai, who deliberated her experiences and memories on the topic “Tracing the history of Madras through built heritage”. This lecture materialised in a time when we all Chennaites geared up to celebrate the existence of its city as ‘Madras Week’ celebrations from August 16-23.
Lecture on “Heritage & Conservation”
Ar B V Murthy started the lecture on highlighting the role of architects, which is not only bringing beauty to the spaces but also giving meaning to the built form. He continued the lecture by taking us through a series of his significant projects that were built, on-going and also on few entries for design competition. Through his projects, he explained the students on various processes from conceptualisation to realization.

Through his projects, he explained the students on various processes from conceptualisation to realization.
Lecture on “Confluence in Conflict” by Shri. Sridhar Lakshmanan
The session started with an interaction with the students about their idea of heritage and heritage value and the understanding of tangible and intangible spaces. She also focused on why It is important to understand our own heritage and how this can be extended in the process of architectural design.
