The thirteenth of the CAAD lecture series had landscape architect Mr. Prabu Manivannan of K C Design studio lecture on the topic “Sustainable Landscape Design: Case – Factory at Coimbatore” on 28th October 2015.
The event hosted by CAAD students kick started with Ar. Prabu Manivannan explaining the basics of sustainability through an interactive session engaging the students. Various issues of urbanization and its impact on land and other natural resources were deliberated. He then moved on to share with the students one of his live projects of a factory in Coimbatore. He explained the various green concepts and techniques in landscapes that were efficiently employed on the site. His presentation deliberated on the best practices used and various concerns on site like rainwater harvesting, solar paneling, use of salvaged materials, efficient irrigation patterns, types of trees, percolation of water, etc. were discussed in particular. He discussed the various green concepts that were employed that resulted in the building being awarded the greenest factory in the country under industrial design.
Finally, He interacted with the students and answered questions regarding different aspects of sustainable design. Mr. H. Karthiban, Coordinator of the lecture series felicitated the speaker with a memento at the end of the session. The event concluded with vote of thanks by CAAD student representative.
