The 19th lecture of the lecture series was held on 30th of July 2016. The lecture series was conceived along with the inception of CAAD in 2014 to elucidate the various disciplines that architects can venture at the specialization level after architecture. Concurrently experts also provide a practice oriented insight to the on-going academic projects which adds additional impetus and vigour as an inherent part of the teaching methods of CAAD. The lecture titled ‘Perception, Process and Recitation in Architecture’ by Ar B S Murthy, Managing Director of PADGRO Consultants, Chennai was intended to enlighten the students on the experience of practicing architecture.
PADGRO Ar. Murthy as he is commonly referred to , graduated from School of Architecture and planning, Chennai with an undergraduate degree in architecture and a Masters in Town Planning. He served as site architect at IIM, Ahmedabad campus for the office of renowned architect Louis I Kahn, under the mentorship of Ar B V Doshi. Having a won a campus planning for Siddhartha Engineering College in Vijayawada, Ar. Murthy gave up the offer to work abroad and started PADGRO – Planning and Design group Consultants private limited in 1977. Since then he has taken up many reputed projects across South Asia & South East Asia with a large number of clientele from public and private sectors. With a track record of excellence for four decades, PADGRO has cultivated diverse portfolio that covers the entire gamut of architectural project for various sectors.
The Director of CAAD, Prof Vinodh Vijayakumar thanked the Chairman of CAAD, Smt V R Roopa Rajendran for the sustained support towards the conduct of the CAAD Lecture series and formally welcomed the Chief Guest to address the gathering on the topic of lecture. Mr Vinodh highlighted on the role of Ar B V Murthy on his involvement in architectural education as a significant member in Board of studies of many reputed universities.
Ar B V Murthy started the lecture on highlighting the role of architects, which is not only bringing beauty to the spaces but also giving meaning to the built form. He continued the lecture by taking us through a series of his significant projects that were built, on-going and also on few entries for design competition. Through his projects, he explained the students on various processes from conceptualisation to realization. He concluded the lecture by explaining to the students on the importance of considering the design context as an important step in the design process and the digital medium is only a tool to express the ideas not as a designing medium.
Our Chairman, Shri Dr. V R Rajendran and Smt. Roopa Rajendran felicitated the speaker with a memento at the end of the session.
The student coordinators moderated the question answer session creating a platform for the students to interact with Ar B V Murthy. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by the student representative followed by lunch.
