The eleventh of the CAAD lecture series had renowned conservation architect Ms. Kalpana from Chennai, who deliberated her experiences and memories on the topic “Tracing the history of Madras through built heritage”. This lecture materialised in a time when we all Chennaites geared up to celebrate the existence of its city as ‘Madras Week’ celebrations from August 16-23.
The program started with offering prayers to the almighty and a grand pooja at the Vinayagar temple inside the CAAD campus and spiritually ensured the divine presence with the lighting of kuthuvilaku by the Chief Guests.
Prof VinodhVijayakumar, Director, CAAD welcomed the Dignitaries and shared the achievements of CAAD since inception and vision of the institution in the years to come. The collaborations with International institutions including the MOU with Alfa International College, Malaysia was shared with the attendees in his address.
Dr. V.R.Rajendran, Vice Chancellor, Vinayaka Missions University, addressed the gathering with an invigorating speech. He also felicitated the chief guests and the members of the nearby Village panchayat for their enthusiastic support towards this institution.
The gathering became still motivated by listening to the words of knowledge on architectural profession from Ar T Loganathan, Joint Secretary, Indian Institute of Architects, Tamilnadu Chapter and Ar. PrasannaKesavan, Director, Studio 7 Architects.
Ar K Senthil Kumar, enlightened the students about Architecture as a profession by sharing the experiences from his practice and the initiatives of the Indian Institute of Architects to partner with architecture institutions in its endeavours. Thavathiru Shri Janakiram Swamigal enlightened the young minds with the morals and virtues to be upheld in their student life and offered his blessings to the new batch of students for a halcyon future.
Mrs. RoopaRajendran, Chairman, CAAD, Dr.V.R.RitishRajendran, Trustee of CAAD also graced the function and conveyed their commitment to make CAAD an institution of repute and wished the new batch a grand success.
Students of Batch 2014 were appreciated and awarded with certificates by the Chief Guests, for their participation and successful completion of a session on Personality Development in the previous semester and workshop on learning Google Sketch up.
Immediately after the inauguration function the new batch of students were taken to the Rajamannaraiyah hall within the CAAD premise for an Orientation Lecture on the academic curriculum of Anna University which is the affiliating university. The members of the faculty team were introduced to the students and the academic regulations and norms were explained to them by the team. The parents of the new batch, after a greatly enjoyed lunch, visited site and witnessed the new infrastructure for CAAD that is under construction.
The event was well attended by the previous batch of students, Batch 2015 and their parents, faculties, members from advisory board and guests. The ceremonious function had an overwhelming response among the gathering and in overall the event is one of an important page in the history of CAAD.
