On March 3, 2018, CAAD- Chennai Academy of Architecture and Design hosted their 31st CAAD Lecture titled “Role of Expression in Design” by Ar. G. Jyothiram, Architectural Consultant with C.R Narayan Rao Architects. The architect expressed concern about design students’ increasing disconnect with sketching as a medium of quick and reliable communication.
On December 20th, 2017, CAAD- Chennai Academy of Architecture and Design hosted their 30th lecture titled “Architecture Education and Practice in Bangkok” by Prof. Dr. Wirat Lertpaitoonpan, Vice-President of Sripatum University, Bangok & Prof. Dr. Wasinghon Chanon, Head of Department of Interior Design, Bangkok.
The architect discussed the essential components of a good portfolio, and advised the students on the process of selecting and applying with coveted firms of their choice.
Mr. Karthik Narayan, a LEED Accredited Professional, briefed the students about sustainable designing concepts like passive sustainable design, active design, wellness in buildings, life cycle analysis of buildings and LEED rating criteria. He also introduced the LEED Green Associate examination, its importance and the courses offered by EN3 Sustainability Solutions to prepare for the certification.
On August 28, 2017, CAAD- Chennai Academy of Architecture and Design hosted their 26th Lecture titled “Visual Communication: Powering a design narrative” by Ar. Tahaer Zoyab, at their campus in Thumbakkam.
On July 7, 2017, CAAD- Chennai Academy of Architecture and Design a standalone college of architecture located in Thumbakkam, Chennai hosted the Silver Jubilee Lecture titled “Architecture and Society” by Architect. Pramod Balakrishnan, at their campus in Thumbakkam. The architect addressed the students about the connections between humans, built environment and nature.
Ar. Lavanyaa addressed the students of CAAD about the evolution of traditional performing art centers and theatres, as dictated by the ancient texts of India. She elaborated on the various classifications of theatre spaces, the ancient directives governing their design and the versatility and requirements of performing arts as a building function.
The eleventh of the CAAD lecture series had renowned conservation architect Ms. Kalpana from Chennai, who deliberated her experiences and memories on the topic “Tracing the history of Madras through built heritage”. This lecture materialised in a time when we all Chennaites geared up to celebrate the existence of its city as ‘Madras Week’ celebrations from August 16-23.
