On July 7, 2017, CAAD- Chennai Academy of Architecture and Design a standalone college of architecture located in Thumbakkam, Chennai hosted the Silver Jubilee Lecture titled “Architecture and Society” by Architect. Pramod Balakrishnan, at their campus in Thumbakkam. The architect addressed the students about the connections between humans, built environment and nature. Architect. Rajarathinam, Former Chairman of Indian Institute of Architects (Tamil Nadu Chapter), Prof. Vinodh Vijayakumar, Director of CAAD – Chennai Academy of Architecture and Design, prominent architects, faculty, students and architectural aspirants have participated in the lecture.
The eleventh of the CAAD lecture series had renowned conservation architect Ms. Kalpana from Chennai, who deliberated her experiences and memories on the topic “Tracing the history of Madras through built heritage”. This lecture materialised in a time when we all Chennaites geared up to celebrate the existence of its city as ‘Madras Week’ celebrations from August 16-23.
"CAAD celebrates the presence of Ar Apurva Bose Dutta as the speaker of its 45th Lecture Series. She highlighted on the future of the upcoming field 'Architectural Writing - An indispensable field in/to Architecture" to CAAD Students. The lecture focused on the niche of writing about architecture and design and the need for architectural writing to comprehend the designer's mind and the user's experience of a design from an unbiased perspective."
The lecture started with a series of visuals highlighting the evolution of dwelling units across the world and the basis of different spaces in response to varied contexts. She shared her research idea on the concept of dwelling that's understood as a part of one’s basic needs and considered private can be inferred as an urban element by intervening it in the context of time, place and user group.
